What is Community Development?
Community development is the process of working alongside individuals and groups to ensure they have the skills and support to bring about local positive change.
Here at Quantin Binnah we have a number of community groups that use our facilities to offer services to the wider community.
Pink Ladies of QB
An informal gathering of ladies with varying ages (mostly senior) that knit, crochet and stitch items for the Cancer Council of Victoria. Often driven by a project or simply being together, like minded women share stories and have coffee and cake in the back room of Café QB (user pays).
Pink Ladies meet every Wednesday from 10:30 – 12:30pm no appointment required
Warm Hearts of Wyndham
An informal knitting group that meet the third Saturday of 10 months of the year, from 2:00-4:00pm. No experience necessary – all welcome!
SAIL (Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning) Program
A volunteer-run, non-profit, secular organisation which provides free English support and community services to the Sudanese Australian community.
SAIL was founded in 2001 as part of a vision to assist members of Australia’s Sudanese community through language tuition. SAIL has grown and changed with the needs of the community and today it focuses heavily on educational support and mentoring, as well as promoting social inclusion and supporting young members of the Sudanese community as they rise into positions of leadership.
SAIL usually runs for an hour and a half on Saturday mornings throughout the year, at Quantin Binnah Community Centre. As an entirely volunteer-run organisation, its survival and ability to achieve its goals relies on the time, energy and initiative of its volunteers.
